Beat of the Heart by Katie Ashley

    17693329.jpg

Overall Rating: ♔♔♔♔ (4)
Romance: ❤❤❤❤(4)
Humor: ✌✌✌✌ (4)
Drama: ★★★ (3.5)

Goodreads Synopsis:
After years of bad relationships and a cheating ex-fiancĂ©, twenty-eight-year-old Mia Martinelli prefers healing her patients’ hearts on the Cardiac Care floor rather than risking having her heart broken again. But that all comes to a screeching halt when caring for the head roadie for Runaway Train puts her into the orbit of drummer and Latin Lover, AJ Resendiz. After a scorching weekend of steamy passion, Mia’s intention of getting out with her heart unscathed is challenged by the stud with the wicked sense of humor, especially when he wants to continue seeing her. But when the harsh reality of AJ’s hoard of female admirers sends her insecurities into overdrive, Mia bails, leaving him handcuffed to his bathroom shower.

AJ never imagined that after two weeks of the best sex and female companionship he’d ever experienced, he would need rescued by his band mates from his shower prison. Although he tries to forget the sensual brunette whose curves made his mouth water, AJ can’t get her out of his mind…or his heart. Months later when he finally seeks Mia for answers as to why she left, nothing could prepare him for their life-altering reunion.

Can AJ prove to Mia that regardless of the women after his body, his heart belongs only to her?

My Review:
Mia is a cardiac care nurse born to a star athlete and surrounded by Italian men she has always been well taken care of except in her romantic relationships. Just recently she walked in on her fiance and her friend on the kitchen counter. She has sworn off men until one night on shift she meets AJ.

After an interesting first meeting AJ knows he has to get to know Mia one way or another but she puts of plenty of resistance. Once she gives in and agrees to a date the steaminess begins and let me tell you there is no lack of steam. Katie Ashley knows how to write amazingly hot sex scenes but she the characters she creates are so compassionate and realistic that the book has more depth than just those steamy sex scenes.

But that's not happy ever after for them. After a misunderstanding Mia leaves AJ handcuffed to the shower and refuses to speak to him for months. Will they each be able to overcome the past to look forward to a future together or will the both be to stubborn to admit what they have known all along.

BOOK REVIEW: Selling Scarlett by Ella James

18516961.jpg

Overall Rating: ♔♔♔(3.5)
Romance: ❤❤❤(3.5)
Action: ➹➹➹ (3)
Humor: ✌✌✌ (3)
Drama Rating: ★★★★ (4)

Synopsis: Elizabeth DeVille doesn't belong at a party like this - one where the gowns cost more than her Camry and cigars run higher than her grad school utility bills. Dragged out of seclusion by her best friend Suri, Elizabeth is merely playing dress-up, rubbing elbows with a crowd that banished her troubled family years ago.

Hunter West is tired. Tired of parties, tired of pretending, and tired of trying to right a wrong that haunts him every day. Bourbon heir and professional poker player by day, by night Hunter is gambling with his life in a high-stakes game of crime and blackmail.

When Elizabeth stumbles into Hunter's den of vices, she's a light in the darkness, a flame in the void. And, just like everything he touches, Hunter mars her in a record time. To rectify the damage done, Elizabeth needs money she doesn't have, and she's come up with a foolproof way to get it.

Follow Elizabeth - code-named Scarlett - to the lush Nevada brothel where she'll auction her virginity and risk the only thing that's not for sale: her heart. The highest bidder is a familiar face, with wicked hands and the devil's mouth. And a secret so dark that it could cost her life.

This book blew my mind!! I had the hardest time getting into the book for the first 50 pages but by the 80th page or so I was hooked. Once all the details come together and start to make sense you will NOT be able to put this book down. There is plenty of drama with just the right mix of romance, suspense and humor. I loved that this story was unpredictable and not your typical mushy love story but it sure doesn’t lack in the HOT department!!!

The Alpha Group Trilogy by Maya Cross

Alpha Series.jpg

Overall Rating: ♔♔♔♔(4)
Romance: ❤❤❤❤(4.5)
Action: ➹➹➹ (3)
Suspense Rating: ★★★★ (4.5)

HOT, HOT, HOT!!!! Sebastian, Sophia and everything else about this book is steamy HOT!! The first two books were very sexy and had a lot of details that allowed you to get an insight into the lives of the main characters. I enjoyed Maya Cross’s style of writing and how she waited until the third book to introduce “The Alpha Group” and Sebastian's point of view.

“The smile was like a drug to me now. It was my reason to get up each morning. And every time I saw it, I wanted just a little more.”

“Brace yourself against the wall," he said " I'm done being gentle.”

Pros:
  • Hot, Erotic, Sexy scenes with vivid detail
  • Dominant with a sensitive side and very unpredictable
  • Successful Sub with drive and fight; still very in control of her life outside of the bedroom
Cons:
  • Extreme change of pace in 3rd book, Unlocked
  • First two books were a little too short for me
  • Second book bordered boring for me in parts

This is a must read for anyone who enjoyed "Fifty Shades Trilogy" by E.L. James or In Flight trilogy by R.K. Lilley!!
